| I'm not a jazz expert but I do like some stuff. 'Monk's Dream' by Thelonious Monk is great, as is Miles Davis' 'Round About Midnight'. I'm partial to a bit of Duke Ellington too |

| Although I have some jazz-albums in my collection (Miles Davis, Brubeck, Charlie Parker, to name a few) I'm personally more a lover of jazz-rock and progressive jazz-rock (Bill Bruford, Allan Holdsworth, Return To Forever, Brand X, Scott Henderson etc.). |

Jazz is a rare indulgence for me but I do own three Davis records; Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain and Nefertity. The latter is unusual for it plays sort of like a cycle, often repeating bars over and over again. Check it out if you can. I also have records by Stan Getz.
Jazz presents something which I can’t quite define and it is only when in a very particular state of mind that I am able to bask in it, or rather, to let the music wash over me. I often happen upon live Jazz music in some of the lounge bars where I live and find it a delight when I am alone, and rather tired, for it beckons the AM hours. Night music.
My interest ultimately strays into more guitar based Bossa work, like the Brazilian stylings of Baden Powell or Joao Gilberto. Infact there is a classic cross over record called Getz/Gilberto (1964) which is outstanding and I truly recommend it. |

I'd recommend Keith Jarret (particularly his 'Concert' series). Also Herbie Hancock - I really like the Mwandishi and Headhunter periods. And try Chick Corea! _________________ I have stolen a man

I'm a big Bill Evans fan (the pianist on Miles Davis's 'Kind of Blue')
Check out his later concerts for some real heartfelt, expressive playing - he was an out and out genius... |

His Undercurrent is my all time favourite cover.

Yes I like jazz. I like it a lot. It can get pretty complicated sometimes, but that is ok, and part of why I like it.
I recently watched a 7 part series on youtube about a guy name Lenny Breau. Now Lenny Breau had been a name I had been vaguely familiar with and at one point had a couple records of his. In fact at one point I shared an apartment with a jazz trombonist named Rex Rathgeber that had played with Lenny in Toronto.
But it was only in watching and listening to this series that i really came to appreciate the extreme uniqueness of Lenny Breau. His right hand technique on the guitar is just beyond the pale. |
