| Just listened to the album the first time. It's a really special CD. Songs from Pink Moon (and a couple of other Drake-tunes) are coupled with songs from John Downland, Thomas Campion and the Gregorian Requiem Mass. The latter are all arranged by bass-singer and lute player Joel Frediriksen. In the liner notes he explains that "(...) it worked to arrange a Dowland or Campion song wit a Nick Drake-style accompaniment (in the loosest sense) but not to put a complex, polyphonic accompaniment to a Nick song." A good example is the sequence "His Golden Locks, verses 1 & 2" (Downland)-"Place To Be"-"His Golden Locks, verse 3". |
