You can post the last song, album, or band.
I have been listening to alot of Elliott Smith. For those that haven't heard of him he was born August 6, 1969 and died October 21, 2003. (possible suicide) He made 6 albums. His last album, "From a Basement on a Hill" was finished by his wife after he died. |

Sounds interesting. I have heard his name before, but I will have to check him out.
Why am I so fascinated by tragic artists?  |

I have been listening to, in no particular order, Mississippi John Hurt, Richard Thompson, Damien Rice, John Williams (www.johnwms.com), Ray LaMontagne, Zero 7, Alexi Murdoch (very Drake-like) and just about any old acoustic blues stuff I can get my hands on. I like some stuff by Citizen Cope, Elliott Smith and East Mountain South too. Nick is always on hand though. Just never seem to grow tired of his music. cheers

I listen to a lot of Eva Cassidy. (I'm actually quite surprised her name hasn't been mentioned on this board already, but I only scanned it quickly so I could've missed it) Like Nick, she has a way of playing and singing that really pulls at your heartstrings. She covered a lot of different styles of music but her most spectacular pieces of work are her heartwrenching ballads. She's most famous for her cover of Over The Rainbow. Also like Nick, she died at the untimely age of 33, of cancer. Her music sales were limited during her lifetime due to her shyness and reluctance to step into the limelight, but after her death, sales slowly crept up as the word spread, and no fancy advertising campaign ever made her famous; only the quality of her music.

Hey Brandon,
I just ordered Elliott Smith's first album, Roman Candle, on the strength of the title track which I downloaded. It's seriously awesome.
I figured it'd best to start at the beginning and work my way through his albums! |

Besides Nick? Well, lately some Neil Halstead, some early Moody Blues, Al Stewart-love his very early stuff, U2, and also, lately, my Chorus of Whales meditation tape. It's truly other-wordly.
Nick's today en route to airport was Five Leaves Left. |

oh yes another elliot smith fan. yea it is sad that he is gone he had some great music.
the last person i listened to was Modest Mouse. the album was This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. and the last song was Dramamine |

I have been listening to the latest Johnny cash (in?!?) American V: A Hundred Highways. It is amazing! While all of the other American releases have had moments of brilliance there has always been some awful covers (Bridge Over Troubled Water was terrible!) to go with them. This is the first that is fantastic from begining to end. The highlights for me are 'God's Gonna Cut You Down' and Gordon Lightfoot's 'If You Could Read My Mind'.
Buy it, download it or do whatever you have to do. You won't be sorry!! |
