During the winter; especially november and december, I fell into a bad dose of the winter blues. Being a musician myself I usually utilise my sadness to write songs. Theres something divine in journeying through the dark night and plucking out any available light along the way. But, this year I suffered worse than I normally do and found myself near suicidal on two occasions. Then one morning whilst reading "the peoples music" by ian mcdonald, i stumbled upon a chapter devoted to nick drake. Nick Drake was a name which had cropped up on many occasions over 10 or so years but had just as quickly faded again and I never listened to any of his material.
Until now. And I'm glad I have. Listening to his songs over the past couple of weeks has occupied my time and comforted me when I needed it. Although I find his lyrics a little awkward and immature in places; i cant deny that there is SOMETHING magical in those ditty's. Better not to analyse what - just is.
