Ihave two '70's guild guitars, which I hope to use at the TIA gathering. The only problem I have with the guitar Nick may have used, is that when I posted a similar question about Nicks chosen axe, I was told in no uncertain terms that the Guild was handed to him just for the pic. on the cover of Bryter Layter. I have recorded my tribute with a Martin (1961) nylon, with a set of high tension strings.I do ,however ,recognise the guild tones on some of Nicks recordings. The thing about Guilds is that they are beautifully made, and the vintage ones sound great.
The trouble is, once you have one, you never want to get rid !
p.s.,Ive just recorded a version of Smoking Too Long with Robin Frederick , and I have tried my best to recreate Nicks style of playing, for Robin to add a vocal to, and we're both v. pleased with it.(I used the nylon on this.
I hope that I will be able to play the c.d at TIA, but I dont know who's playing what, yet.
To find out more about Robin Frederick, and her association with Nick in the '60's, go to her web site. www.robinfrederick.com
The song will shortly be posted on my own page,as soon as our kid can be bothered.
