Just started reading the Pink Moon Files (looks like a great book, although for die hard fans, not beginners!).
In one of the first chapters, it mentions Bryter Later had an alternative cover - does anyone know what this looked like? I've never heard of it.

| yes - there was a b/w photocopy of it in one of the original Pink Moon issues. To be honest it looked hideous - I know a lot of people aren't big fans of the final BL artwork (I actually do like it) but the first one they considered was awful imo. From memory it was like a close up of Nicks face but rendered in a horrible halftone dot. Similar stuff has been done since but much better than the effort for BL. Be great to hear from Nigel Weymouth who took the shot for the final BL cover. |

I understand it was orange and it was a rare picture of Nick smiling
The Bryter Layter cover shot isn't a very good one of Nick, as its not very clear; you can't really make out his face, and the shoes look rather daft!

The only worst album cover of Nicks was Pink Moon, which didn't really do justice to the music
I can't imagine anyone picking up that album on virtue of the cover!

One other little fact about the final BL cover - I read somewhere that the chair Nick is sitting on had originally belonged to Charles Dickens! I think it may have even been the photographer who said that.
I quite like the fact you can't quite see his face as that says a lot about how he was as a person - people / friends never quite got the full story with him.
I think the cover of FLL was really badly done - a wasted opportunity. The shade of green and the awful typography - very poor even for the late 60s. |

the running man shot may have served better as a cover, though the cover for Five Leaves Left is probably better than Bryter Layter and Pink Moon COMBINED
never cared for the cover of PM. the music is so superb, and the covers for the 2nd and 3rd albums are so absurd
Time of No Reply's cover however is very nice, good shot of Nick with his guitar next to a tree (an Ent?)
Good liner notes as well
Made to love magic
is a nice cover/package as well
sadly Family Tree's packaging is better than the album!

I heard that somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it's not true...
I remember it being described as a chair that was just hanging around the studio. I think the Dickens thing may just be people trying to build the myth!

Then again I may be wrong - a quick Google pulls up this email from another forum from the guy who took the picture - seems genuine enough...

Wayne that is an interesting quote from Nigel Waymouth the photog. Could you be more specific as to its source? Me no find.
But I totally get what is being said and dig now the meaning of the picture.
Many chairs look that way; in fact I have one looks almost identical but pretty sure Charley never sat therein. |

Has only the one photo, i.e. the cover shot, ever turned up / been published from this photo session ?
The cover is one of my favourite LP covers of all time, despite others seemingly not liking it. |
