Is it me or does anyone else on here have this problem?.
EverytimeI hear,or see, a date(year) of a particular artists album I immediately think of what Nick would have been doing at this point in time.
It's silly really.
I was listening to John Martyn's Sunday's child the other night.A quick look on the back of the album was 1974.BANG,I instantly thought about Nick's death. His funeral etc.
A couple of weeks ago I was looking at a few old photographs of me and my sister in the 70s.Handwritten on the back of one was 1970.Again I thought straight away of Bryter Layter and the problems Nick was having at Hampstead.
Why would this be?I've never thought along these thinking proceses of any other musician, from dylan to paul Weller
This has been happening for a few years.I wouldn't mind but I'm 48 and have 5 children!!
It could be any date I've read in a newspaper to Watching the news.As soon as a year is mentioned,as long as it's not after 1974 obviously,I think of Nick and where he was and what he would have been doing.
Don't worry I'm not mad..at least I don't think I am! |

I know what you mean. Here in the UK the BBC recently completed a documentary series on the 1970s. Nick's music was featured a couple of times, but there was a moment when the programme discussed the Christmas of 1974, showing archive film footage from the time, and the thought struck me that Nick had (at that time) only recently passed away and that Christmas of 1974 must have been so sad for the Drakes. I remember that Christmas very well as I had just recovered from a bout of pleurisy. I think the series is available on BBC iPlayer. _________________ I have stolen a man

Heh - I thought I was the only one who did that. I'll think of a TV show or a movie that was popular during his lifetime and wonder if he ever watched it. I was reading about the Summer of Love the other day, and wondered what his thoughts were about that. I saw an article about an Underground tunnel that was recently reopened; it had been sealed during the 50s, and my first thought was "huh, when Nick was just a kid."
I think I've mentioned before that I turned five years old the week of Nick's death, and that was the first birthday for which I have photographs. For some reason, my family took a lot of pictures that year, and now when I see them, I think - "this was Nick's last summer. Nick's last autumn..."
If you're nuts, then so am I _________________ Hoping to find new ways of doing better than my worst |
